Formed in 2008, it didn’t take long for a buzz to start building around Kent’s Wretched Soul. Whilst
tirelessly gigging all over the UK gaining legions of fans in the nation’s bars and clubs, they’ve acquired
accolades straight from the top, gaining support from Metal Hammer heavyweight Malcolm Dome,
Bloodstock Radio’s DJ Beerman, and Hard Rock Radio’s DJ Valkyrie. After seeing the documentary on Anvil
featuring producer Chris Tsangarides (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, King Diamond) and his studio in Kent,
the band felt compelled to try and connect with the man who was essentially their neighbour. Unsure if
someone who had worked with all the biggest names in metal would even bother with a little unsigned
band, it took time to muster up the courage to approach him. But once the demos were in his hands an
obviously impressed Tsangarides agreed to meet with them and the next thing you know, they’re in the
studio laying down tracks for their debut album to be released on his label Dark Lord Records.
Wretched Soul’s face shredding, neck wrecking, mind pummelling brand of thrash-infused Metal is a
seamless mélange of British speedsters Sabbat, the venomous melody of Gothenburg’s giants, and the
traditional heavy metal gallop of Maiden and Priest, modernizing thrash much like Black Dahlia Murder did
death metal. Having previously supported genre heavy-hitters like Anihilated, Blaze Bayley, Eastern Front
and Beholder, Wretched Soul are more than comfortable with high-stakes performances, their biggest
being this summer as hand-picked UK envoys to Bloodstock Open Air, the country’s biggest and best
extreme metal festival. With a fully-booked summer ahead and their explosive debut lurking just around
the corner, it is without a doubt that Wretched Soul are the thrash band you’ll want to keep an ear on.
