In a time that is ever changing, the income for songwriters and artists is very low as the subscriptions to streaming services like Spotify increase. The Pocket Gods are aiming to spread awareness about the lack of pay these streaming services are actually paying musicians in their new film entitled ‘The 30 Second Song Movie’. The film is now available on Amazon Prime video.
The Pockets Gods started releasing 30 second songs as this is the timeframe that listeners need to listen to a song for Spotify to pay. The Pockets Gods maxed out the tiny royalty per song by putting 100 songs on an album. Receiving coverage from the likes of BBC news, Channel 4, & Sky News, Billboard, Rolling Stone and the NME, Spotify’s founder Daniel Ek held meetings about this issue with their head of music. Spotify later told the band that music streaming is just one slice of the pizza and artists should look to make money elsewhere.
The film entitled ‘The 30 Second Song Movie’ is now available on Amazon Prime.
