Songwriter Camp For All Female and Non-Binary Songwriters and Producers: It’s Success and Why It Is Needed!

Introducing Her Songs For Him, the first every songwriting camp hosted for only female and non-binary songwriters, artists and producers. Returning for their second year, Her Songs For Him welcomes musicians from across the globe to their latest and most successful event that was held early October 2022. 

Her Songs For Him originally set up a writing camp that took place in Stockholm last year with participating Scandinavian artists such as Benjamin Ingrosso, JUNG, Sandro Cavazza, Omar Rudberg and Alexander Oscar. During the 5 day songwriting camp, an overall of 27 creatives collectively wrote 28 songs with a producer, songwriter and artist in each room. 

Why is a songwriting camp for just female and non-binary songwriters, artists and producers needed? Well, the latest Spotify Statistics show that from data taken from the 50 most played songs in Sweden in 2021, only 19% female songwriters were credited with only 5% credited female producers. This is just a small amount of data that represents the gender imbalance in the music business, especially when it comes to roles such as producing, songwriting or engineering. When compared to international results, the facts are even more shocking. Based on a 2021 report showing the ratio of male to female producers across the 600 most successful songs on Billboard which result is 38 males to every 1 female. Over half of the 900 most successful songs had no female songwriter credited. 

Taking part in the 2022 Her Songs For Him Songwriting Camp saw a range of songwriter-producers and artists including Tomoko Ida (Japan), Myra Granberg (Sweden)l, Janeva (Australia/USA), Kamara (Norway), Sophie Verdonk (Sweden), Emelie Hollow (Norway), Benjamin Ingrosso (Sweden), Levent Geiger (Germany), Degree (France), Maximilian (Denmark) and Omar Rudberg (Sweden). The event was a thorough success, with all participants that took place leaving raving reviews and promising a return.
